UUFCO Membership
We view membership as entering into a covenant — a mutual promise of inclusion and respect, and a commitment to support the fellowship.
The Path to Membership
If you're participating at UUFCO or attending Sunday services and wondering how to get more involved, please join us for our membership classes (offered three times a year). In this two-class series, offered three times per year, we provide a brief overview of Unitarian Universalism. You will also learn more about this vibrant community—full of rich opportunities to nourish the soul and heal the world through service projects, social activities, and various committees which channel the spirit of who we are.
If you choose to become a member of UUFCO at the end of the class series, you will be invited to sign the membership book and be introduced to the congregation on a Sunday following the classes.
Class Descriptions
Class One: Membership Matters
In this class, we invite you to share a brief synopsis (2-3 minutes!) of what brought you to UUFCO as a way to introduce yourselves to one another.
The Membership Team and Rev. Scott will also provide an overview of the covenantal nature of this faith, the evolution of the Principles of Unitarian Universalism into our new Statement of Values, and what becoming a member of UUFCO entails.
Class Two: UUFCO Works
In this second class, leaders of UUFCO describe the different moving parts of the congregation — what keeps us moving forward — and their roles in it. We will also look at the dynamic of reciprocity — giving and receiving. We want you to be acquainted with how the congregation works, and to begin to envision where you might find your place in service and collaboration in this community! At the end of the class, you will also have the opportunity for a building tour to learn about all the meeting spaces, where the office is, and the grounds, all of which are open to our membership.
Signing Ceremony: Covenant Matters
Once you have completed the two classes, you are invited to become a member of UUFCO. The act by which a person becomes a member of UUFCO is signing our Membership Book. We hold a simple ceremony on a Sunday morning before the weekly service. Then afterwards, during service, all new members are welcomed into the Fellowship.
Please note: Even if you are an experienced UUer (i.e., you have been a *member* at another congregation), we still ask all prospective members to take our classes. Every UU congregation is unique and autonomous, and in our classes, we share information that will help you get to know our fellowship specifically.
